Background
The Life Extension Foundation is an organization devoted to seeking
ways of slowing down the aging process while keeping the body strong
and healthy so that the individual can enjoy his or her later years to
the fullest. This non-profit foundation was established in 1980 and
ever since has been involved in researching a variety of methods for
extending a person's life and preventing diseases from attacking the
body.
Through
their research the LEF has developed several therapies that they
believe can help people live longer, healthier lives. These methods
include diet, exercise and dietary supplements. Those interested in the
foundation's work can become members for a yearly fee and will receive
a reference book about disease prevention, a subscription to "Life
Extension" magazine, access to health advisors, discounts on the
foundations products and more.
Products
The Life Extension Foundation prides itself on the quality of its
products. Because there is no regulatory body overseeing the dietary
supplement industry, many companies make exaggerated claims and even
lie outright about the attributes of their products. Many use poor
quality versions of the ingredients in the product, so that the
nutrients are not potent enough to have the desired benefits. The Life
Extension, however, uses only pharmaceutical grade
ingredients and has a quality control expert to oversee
production quality to ensure a product that delivers the nutrients it
claims to contain.
Life
Extension Mix
The Life
Extension Mix, a multivitamin that claims to help keep the
body healthy and increase life span, is the foundation's most popular
product. The "Life Extension Mix" includes over 90 ingredients
including antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, amino acids, herbal
extracts, fruit extracts and vegetable extracts.
Our gripe with this multivitamin is the large number of capsules you have to take; over 300 tables in just 35 days is something we think many will find very difficult
to keep up with. You want to have just a capsule or tablet a day. With the number of capsules you have to tackle daily, there is a very slim chance of starting and staying
with it to the end.
Most of the leading, good value nutritional health supplements cost around $40 a bottle and a full monthly dose is usually 2 bottles / boxes. Life Extension Mix already
costs about $100 for one months supply plus omega on top of that. So in terms of price (despite the 25% discount) it is sure going to stretch you too much when you consider
you have to spend $97 every month for a multivitamin that you are likely not going to take because of the large quantity when you can easily get 30 capsules of other
very effective multivitamins, it does make very little economic sense.
However, we disagree with those people who claim it has no nutrient that targets cancer, because researches have shown that no multivitamins companies can show enough
evidence that vitamins can prevent cancer. The immune system as you know is critical to you health and is the first line of defense against disease. There is no one
multivitamin that targets the immune system. The immune system depends on several vitamins and minerals to stay afloat, and Life Extension Mix contains enough to maintain
a good immunity against diseases.
Life Extension Mix is short on amino acids and there are only two in the formula, L-Cysteine and Taurine. So if your aim is body building, Life Extension Mix is
definitely not what you need. So the claims that this works well for body builders isn't true. You do don't need to be a medical doctor to know that not everybody needs
amino acids supplement, but if you are heavily involved in body building, it is wise you include it in your multivitamins after consulting with your doctor.
In our estimation Life Extension Mix is not the multivitamin for body builders.
However, there are a few ingredients that we think should be included in every multivitamin which are not a part of Life Extension Mix.
Based on studies showing that cocoa polyphenols are extremely effective in neutralizing free radical activity and have been shown to contain more antioxidant polyphenols
than most foods, a standardized cocoa polyphenol extract has been added to the Life Extension Mix formula. This, we think is very good consideration.
Life Extension Mix contains 92 unique vegetables, fruit, herbal extracts, amino acids, vitamins and minerals. Not many multivitamins can boast of this number of herbal
extracts. This multivitamin formulation has been updated several times, up to 21 times since its launch in 1983. Consumption of these types of plants is being recommended
based on research coming out from some of the world's most prestigious medical research centers.
Broccoli is one of the most important vegetables necessary to maintain healthy DNA gene structure. Broccoli contains several active ingredients, and sulforaphane is the
most significant because of its unique ability in detoxifying DNA. Life Extension Mix provides a concentrated broccoli mixture that provides standardized extracts of
sulforaphane and glucosinolates, these two compounds are known to be responsible for the protective powers of broccoli.
D-glucarate is an extract found in grapefruit, apples, oranges, broccoli, and Brussels sprouts. D-gluca-rate supports the process of detoxification that helps to remove
DNA toxins from the body. The daily dose of Life Extension Mix provides up to 200 mg of D-glucarate.
Our
Comments
Life Extension Mix is adequately fortified, our only misgiving with this multivitamin is the quantity and price when compared to
others that offer the same benefits if not more. We recommend you to become a member
to enjoy discounts on the Life Extension Mix.
